Our Classy Coastal Master Bath

30 May

When we moved in over a year and half ago, we were just focusing on getting every wall painted (yes, every wall of the 3600 sq ft that is our house…. painted), nursery done, kitchen done, and great room… done. We weren’t focused too much on our bathroom; we just picked a paint color, hung up some new lights, bought some new rugs and towels and called it a day. I was never really a huge fan of our bathroom because it just seemed so… blah. It’s quite large but I never really felt like it was a “master bath”.

This is what the bathroom looked like when we moved in.

This is what it looked like after adding some paint and new lights.

Always looking for a DIY project because 1) it’s more fun when you put your own sweat into it (Chris’ sweat in this case) and 2a) we are on a serious budget and 2b) it’s just so much cheaper to do it yourself.

That being said, here are This Grey House’s 6 quick ways to update your bathroom!

1. Hardware:

This is the easiest thing you can do! Add some cabinet hardware and bathroom hardware (towel bars, etc) or replace existing hardware to give your bathroom a nice updated look.

2. Framed Mirrors:

Framing in your mirrors makes a world of difference! It’s a cheap way to dress up your mirror without having to replace the whole thing!

3. Beadboard:

Who doesn’t love beadboard? Wall molding/wainscoting just adds so much more of a luxurious feel and it really doesn’t cost much to do.

4. Light Fixtures:

We had those awful basic bulb light fixtures that builders love to put in every home. They do nothing for your bathroom. You can find some really nice fixtures for a good bargain at Lowes or Home Depot.

5. Painted Cabinets:

I am not a huge fan of the existing cabinet color that is in my house so I wasn’t hesitant at all to paint them. Also, adding hardware (or replacing old hardware) is a really quick and simple way to make a difference!

6. Decor:

Last but not least, add some decor! It ties everything together and is the funnest part 🙂

Using these 6 ways, I started realize I started decorating our bathroom as soon as we moved in. We picked out new light fixtures, paint, and hardware immediately. I also bought some new towels and rugs but didn’t really have a vision in mind. About 6 months later, we framed in our bathroom mirrors. This helped immensely!! I highly recommend doing this if you have a big, boring mirror. We saved the harder projects like beadboard and painting the cabinets until now.

I hit the bargain stores for some decor items and really wasn’t sure what I was looking for. Going somewhat coastal seemed like a natural fit since we have blue walls and now white beadboard and the stuff is everywhere in the stores right now.

After spending Memorial Day Weekend and then some working on this project, we are so happy to say we are DONE!

As I said, we decorated our bathroom in stages to make it easier on ourselves (and our wallet).

Here is a rough idea on how much we spent on each project:

Beadboard: $100

Framed Mirrors: $50 for both mirrors

Cabinets (Hardware and Paint): $120

Bathroom Hardware: $60

Light Fixtures: $160

Paint (blue for walls and white for trim): $60

Towels, Rugs, and Decor: $100

That gives us a total of $650. Seems pretty steep when I write it all out but again, we took our time! We have been in this house for almost 2 years so it’s been spread out 🙂

We are so happy on how everything turned out!!

I hope you can find some inspiration to update your bathroom!

Weekend Update with The Jenkinsons

27 May

Happy Memorial Day!!!

I have been looking forward to this weekend for a long time…mainly because I took off some time from work (week and half) for some… down time? I wouldn’t really call it “down” time because I have been going non-stop but that was in the plans. Chris and I stayed home all weekend and have been working on home projects. Look forward to the new bathroom reveal this week (Chris is working on it as we speak!).

I have been off work since last Thursday so I have had some fun, quality time with my favorite little lady!

I was able to put pigtails on Kyler for the first time!

Just cooking away in her kitchen!

Thursday night, we went over to Merritt Island to celebrate Kyler’s cousin Reid’s 2nd Birthday!

I told you she loves her glasses! Safety First 🙂

Kyler and the cousins (minus Miller and Easton)!

On Friday, Chris and I took advantage of Kyler being at school and went to a double feature with some friends. We saw Fast 6 and Hangover 3. Both were good, however, I think I may have enjoyed Fast 6 just a tad better.

We have been at Home Depot twice already this week and made a trip to Lowe’s as well.

On Saturday, my co-worker’s daughter turned 3 and we went to Gymboree to help celebrate! Kyler seemed to have fun!

Blurry because she’s bouncing 🙂

Kyler and I played in the “pool” on Sunday!

My little model ❤

We found a little lady bug!

Isn’t she just the cutest?!?!?

Grocery shopping at Publix. Her first time in the race car cart and she loved it!

Today, we had a Memorial Day BBQ with the Gilbertson’s! Kyler was festive and had some corn on the cob.

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend!!!

Kyler is 16 Months!!!

26 May

Kyler is 16 months!!! How is that possible, you say? Well since I missed the boat on her 15 month update, this one will just to be extra detailed! I guess you can see this little one has changed a lot in 2 months. For one, she is bigger and taller! Shocker right? Kyler was 24 1/2 pounds at 15 months so I am guessing she is right around the 25 lb mark. INSANE! My mom says she gets her chubbiness from me and I was the same way at that age. I know it’s only a matter of time before she slims out and takes off! She has slowed down a bit in the height department (for her that is) and was just pushing 32 inches, again at 15 months. It will be interesting to see if that trend follows when we go back in 2 months.

15 Months:

16 Months:

  • Teeth- I am happy to report that she now has 6 teeth!!!! Her front 2 teeth finally came in and her gums are super swollen right now so maybe more are on the way?
  • Eating- She is doing really well with her utensils. Sometimes she won’t even try a food but when I put it on her fork or her spoon and she grabs it and eats it, she will then eat it up. Silly girl. Some days she is picky and some days she eats whatever we give her. Comes with the toddler territory right?
  • Dancing-  This girl loves to move and shake it. Her favorite songs are Itsy Bitsy Spider, Wheels on the Bus, ABC’s, Hot Dog, and anything with a good beat.
  • Mickey Mouse- I think a trip to Disney is in our future. She loves Mickey and the gang and can notice the “ears” on anything.
  • Talking- Oh boy… she is a gabber. She is always talking about something and her words are becoming more clear. I still think her favorite word is Thank You. Weird, I know but anytime she is done with something or hands you something she says it. Polite kid!
  • Testy- She has started this new thing where she gets this grin and deliberately does what you do not want her to do. She thinks it’s funny and looks at you as to say “What are you going to do”…. no clue where she gets that attitude from.
  • Sleeping– I have got myself a sleeper! She goes to bed between 7:30-8 at night and wakes up (if you let her sleep in) around 8am. Some days a little earlier but some days a little later. She goes down for one nap a day, usually right after lunch and sleeps for about 2 to 2.5 hours. She loves to sleep!

She is really turning into more of a little girl rather than a baby every day. She has a goof ball personality and definitely likes to be the center of attention. She loves animals and knows the differences between a lot of different animals. She knows what a monkey, lion, dog, and cow say. She LOVES to count (this is a game her and her Poppa do). She loves to blow kisses and will only give me a kiss on the lips. She has started snuggling again (YES!!! FINALLY) but it’s only when shes sleepy.

We bought Kyler a big girl bed that we are going to refinish so look out for that this summer. I am hoping her transition will be an easy one! She has enough hair for me to put in pigtails (yay!) and it instantly makes her look 6 months older. I can barely handle it!

It is so hard to believe she is almost 1.5 years old. Kyler Nicole, you are almost too cute for Mommy and Daddy to handle and you continue to develop your own little sweet personality each and every day! Happy 16 Months!

Weekend Update with The Jenkinsons

19 May

A pretty dress for a pretty lady!

Kyler ended up getting an ear infection so we stayed home on Wednesday. While she napped, I made this for my newest little nephew Baby Basso! She is doing a New York Giants themed nursery (booo to the Giants but yay for doing it super cute and trendy!)

Since she was still not feeling 100%, she stayed home with me on Friday. Thankfully she was feeling a little bit better but she still had a fever 😦

Such a cute dress!

We ran out of gas this weekend… who does that?!?! Apparently, we do!

Thankfully we were really close to home and our good friend/neighbor was nearby so we didn’t have to wait long. Kyler didn’t seem to mind.

We set up Kyler’s pools and water toys on Saturday for some water fun!

Kenley joined in the fun!

Backyard Water Park!

Thankfully, we won’t have to do this too much longer because…..

This is a rough design but it will look somewhat similar to this when it’s all said and done.

We have been wanting one for SO long and when we bought this house, we made sure we would have a big enough backyard for a pool and some grass. We are hoping it will be done by August sometime as long as the weather isn’t too bad and the permits get done in time!

This also means lots of projects for Chris and I. We found these plans on Ana-White and are going to attempt to make our own furniture since everything else is so expensive!!

I have a lot of time off around Memorial Day so we are going to get the garage in order so we can start tackling some home projects. We have 4 projects on the list:

1. Pool (duh, I just told you). That also includes the couch, a few Adirondacks chairs, and some refreshers to some existing furniture we have.

2. Laundy room! I think we finally have a plan for this and can’t wait to get going on it!

3. Master bath. We are painting the cabinets and adding some beadboard to make it seem a little more like a “Master” bath.

4. Kyler’s big girl room. We bought a bed we need to refinish and I am on the hunt for a dresser to do the same!

We will be very busy this summer but I am SO excited to get started!

I will leave you with another shot of Kyler just because she is too cute not too.

Another great week with my little family ❤

Weekend Update with The Jenkinsons

13 May

Since it was Mother’s Day and I am a momma, I took the day off and decided to write the blog today so I could relax a little longer.

I made some treats for Kyler’s teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week:

This week was all about preparing for Mother’s Day with some arts and crafts time.

Kyler figured out how to put the stickers on the frame pretty quick. She was proud of herself (as was I :))

We also dove into the paint…. what a mess!

Just love her so much!

Funny little video to go with it 🙂

She made this for me at school!

We headed over to Merritt Island on Saturday to hang out with my parents. Maggie the lap dog.

Sunday morning, Chris made us a yummy breakfast for Mother’s Day. Kyler gave Grandma her gifts!

Kyler’s gift to me! So cute.

Chris turned my blog into a book. So sweet.

The local weather forecasts BLEW it and said it was going going to thunderstorm and rain through out the day so we decided not to go on the boat. The weather ended up being perfect for the boat but that is okay because we went to the Brevard Zoo instead.

Kyler loved the giraffes and rhinos.

She also loved the jaguar and her new baby! They have the same birthday!

Feeding the deer

This is what being a mom is all about…. this little face right here.

Grandma bought Kyler a little giraffe since she loved them so much. It’s been a big hit since she got it.

We went straight to the pool since it was SO hot out. Last week, we went in the pool and Kyler seemed somewhat unsure when she was out of the float…. this time, she was fearless. Almost fearless. Time to book those swimming lessons!

She thought she knew how to swim and kept putting her head underwater.

Back at home reading a story before bed time.

Being a mom is the best feeling in the world and I am so lucky to have such a sweet, beautiful, smart, talented, funny (the list can go on and on) little girl. I had a great day just hanging out with my sweet family.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mommas out there!!!

Weekend Update with The Jenkinsons

5 May

As usual, we jam packed this week with lots of plans, activities, etc. I swear I need to stop doing that so we can just stop and relax but as I am typing this… I am laughing because how do you do that with a busy busy 15 month old?!?! Which reminds me I have not done her 15 month post so I need to get on that before 16 months comes up on me (seriously time, slow down).

I am trying to introduce coloring to Kyler but she isn’t having it…. at school she colors and I get her Pablo Picaso  doodles sent home all the time…. but at home, nope… she would rather try and eat the crayons (of course giving me that grin like “I know I am not supposed to do this but I like to anyway.”

A reader reached out to me about Kyler’s first birthday invitation since she was doing a navy and orange nautical party for her son’s first birthday. Since I designed Kyler’s invitation, there really wasn’t a template that I could just send to her and I didn’t mind tinkering it to create something else super cute and fun so I offered to help. I think it came out super cute!

Wednesday was my 27th birthday! I get somewhat annoyed when young people say “I’m so old” but I can honestly say that I am really starting to feel that way… I know it’s not but 27 just sounds so much older than 26 to me. Silly, I know, but a feeling none the less. My birthday was AWESOME. My parent’s hooked me up with a little shopping trip (I was in desperate need), my co-worker aka Magic family rocked it, and of course my sweet hubby and doubly sweet daughter capped off the night with dinner and a yummy dessert.

My sweet Kyler Bug said Happy Birthday!

So did my pups ❤

Before I get into the antics at work…let me digress a minute. I am in a department of 3 (4 when we have an intern) and we are extremely close. We are highly inappropriate and like to laugh and joke around when we can. When it came time for Danny’s birthday back in February, we decided we needed to show his desk and car “some loving” and completely wrapped his desk with saran wrap and filled it with balloons. We also turned his car into a cow (he is from Wisconsin so it’s fitting). For Phil’s birthday, we hired a company to fill his yard up with funny signs and then covered his office floor with over 2000 cups of water. So needless to say, I knew I had it coming.

When I got to work Wednesday morning, my desk looked like this:

Every square inch was covered in aluminum foil. EVERYTHING I tell you.

Then, it gets worse…. as we were walking out to lunch, I came across this:

Yep, that is MY car parked INSIDE the Amway Center on the 3RD Floor. Boys were sneaky and got my keys and drove it up the ramp and into the freight elevator. Too funny.

When I walked up, I had some friends up there waiting on me…. pretty sure to see my reaction 🙂

Classic, right?

After that, we headed to get some yummy sushi and I heard all about how they pulled that off.

My sweet Kyler

That night, Chris, Kyler and I went to Outback for dinner and it was delicious.

Again, trying to color 🙂

After dinner, we went home, they sang Happy Birthday to me and we ate Red Velvet Cheesecake. This is the cake we had our wedding cake made after so it has special meaning to me 🙂 Chris is just so awesome ❤

Sushi, lunch cupcake, and Red Velvet Cheesecake!

In other news… Kyler has been killing it with the fork usage! She has really gotten that science down. Now a spoon? Not a chance.

I have been on the hunt (kind of sort of) for a big girl bed for Kyler. I love love love the Jenny Lind beds from Land of Nod but do not have or want to cough up almost $600 for a twin bed. Instead, I found this little gem on a Craigslist ad at a local resale store. I got the bed for $139 and feel like I got a good deal! We will be refinishing this into something special…. that post will be at a later date.

Peanut Butter face!!

Saturday night, we headed over to the Gilbertson’s for a little Cinco de Mayo party! All the necessities for a good time (The Jose is for us of course)

The girls of course had a great time…. I think there were 7 kiddos under the age of 4 there. My how parties have changed.

Twins again, and no, we did not plan this time either!

Story time!

The girls took a bath together and that was too cute 🙂

After the kiddos went to bed, we adults had some fun!

J bone!

Macko and Jenks!

Kendra and Jeremy:

Today, we went over to my friend/co-worker’s house to help him with a little DIY project. He just bought his first house and needed some help with it. Chris did most of the helping, I was just along to give my opinion and keep Kyler as entertained as possible.

Told you 🙂

Danny needed a headboard and wt work, we came across this cheap and masculine idea for a one:

His bedroom has all of these black shelves hanging up (bad picture):

Once I saw those, I knew we could just re-purpose them into a headboard! Just take them down and screw them back up! I believe all it cost Danny was a pack of drywall anchors and a can of black spray paint (to touch up the areas on the already painted black wood). Can’t beat that!

Looks great, doesn’t it?

I love doing home projects, decorating, DIY projects, crafty things, and party planning so this has been a fun week for me! I am always up to helping out and so if anyone is stumped on something or wants an opinion, I am free to ask! I am by no means an expert but I love this stuff if you can’t tell already 🙂

Andddd it’s time to go as this is most likely the LONGEST Weekend Update to date. Thanks for hanging in there and see ya next week 🙂
