Weekend Update with The Jenkinsons

25 Aug

The week itself was pretty laid back and uneventful. And I am okay with that! As we approached the weekend, I was busy putting things together for Kendra’s surprise baby shower.

The Gilbertson‘s aren’t finding out what the sex of the baby is this time around so the girls (Sally and Lindsey who I hosted the shower with) came up with the cute “What Will It Bee” theme!

Finished product!

Yummy food!

Baby Gilbertson!

and super yummy cupcakes from Sweet! by Good Golly Miss Holly…. can’t go wrong there!

Shot of the Momma with the hostesses

The shower was great and the best part was she was really surprised!!

The rest of the weekend was spent with my little love bug ❤

Bug

Just getting a little chair massage while we shop.

Tomorrow is Chris’s birthday so I decided to make him a big meal tonight since I don’t have much time after I get home from work.

I am sure we will order his favorite tomorrow night: pizza. The guy could eat it every day if I let him.

I am looking for a laid back week and weekend with no agenda and nothing to do! The past few weekends have been go go go so I would love nothing more than to just hang out! We are finally working on Kyler’s big girl bed so maybe we will make some progress with that by next weekend! Have a great week!

6 Months later…

22 Aug

It’s been 6 months to the day that my brother Craig passed away. There isn’t one day, one hour, one minute that goes by that I don’t think about him. He still makes appearances in my dreams and while it’s amazing to feel like he is still here, it’s a harsh reality to wake up to. It isn’t any easier today than it was 6 months ago. The shock is somewhat gone (I say somewhat because I still find myself thinking this can’t be real) but the all the emotions are still strong and present. I am sad, angry, confused, and every other word that you can think of when someone you love passes away unexpectedly.

While I didn’t see him everyday or talk to him every week, he was still a big part of my life. Celebrating Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and birthdays have been tough and I know this holiday season won’t be any easier. I think about how much my daughter has changed in 6 months and how much he would really enjoy her now.  She has been puckering her lips a lot lately and it reminds me of Craig. He would also pucker his lips when he was thinking. It was subtle but I always remember him doing that. I catch myself doing that sometimes. Funny that Kyler has picked it up. The other day she pointed at his picture and asked “who that?” and I told her Craig. In true 19 month fashion, she repeated “Craig” and it pretty much broke my heart.

It’s frustrating to me that he is no longer here. While he didn’t live the most healthy lifestyle, it was still far too early for him to go. How can a 37-year-old man pass away from a heart attack? Yes, heart attack; not an accidental overdose as some of his so-called “friends” claimed after his passed. Craig has so many great friends and people who love him but I did find it interesting how some people reacted after he passed. Everyone became his bestest and closest friend. I like to take that as a compliment of my brother’s character. That he was such a good friend that people just connected with him. I do wonder how many of those people really knew the real Craig. Not the person he was the past few years but the guy deep down. He was such a larger than life personality but he definitely had a side to him that he didn’t show a lot of people. I am not saying this to undercut some of the relationships he built in his life, just that it was interesting to see how many people he was close to. The pastor made an interesting comment to my parents and I before his service; he said that the family are the ones who need the support the most yet they are the ones that become the counselors.  That everyone will unload their emotions unto us. He was so right. It’s just how it is. It’s not good nor bad, just the truth.

It hasn’t been easier for us. It’s been pretty much hell. I miss my brother. I can’t really talk to my other brother Josh for reasons I care not to discuss so it’s just been me. The pressure feels like an elephant on my shoulders at times but it’s life. I know it could be worse and I do have so many wonderful and positive things in my life. I know that Craig is still with me and I will hold the memories I have with him forever. It’s just hard.

Craig, I love you. Miss you. Think about you always.

I hope you are resting in peace.

Weekend Update with The Jenkinsons

18 Aug

Pool finish was installed on Monday!!!

Started filling it up with water on Tuesday…

Which means….. pool was ready to use on Wednesday!!!!

Kyler was the first to go in…

and the rest of the gang went in right after!

Kyler had a great time in the pool! Thankfully we have her signed up for swimming lessons because she is not afraid of the water!

We did have to stay home from school/work on Wednesday because K had an eye infection and pink eye. She sure was a happy kid even with all of that going on!

Friday night, I worked the KISS show at work and Chris spent the night hanging out with his sister and nephew. They are visiting for the weekend before making their way back to Singapore.

We headed up for a day at SeaWorld on Saturday. The kiddos had fun and got to see a lot of different animals! The penguins were definitely the highlight. We had yet to go on the new ride or see them because every time we have been, the line has been over 2 hours! We only waited about 20 minutes… not too bad!

Kyler LOVED the penguins. She could care less that is was 30 degrees in there (no joke, when you get off the ride, you are in the open air exhibit with the penguins and it was 30 degrees. Burrrr)

Thankfully, you can leave the freezing area and still see the penguins for a bit.

We also checked out the Shamu show and the dolphin show!

It was HOT out but we survived. Kyler passed out before we made it back to the car.

We spent the rest of the weekend in the pool! So nice to have it now with these mid 90’s that have been hanging around!

Kyler had a great time with her cousin Matt this weekend!

Kyler with her Auntie Jen

We had a fun filled weekend with family but it’s back to the real world tomorrow. Already. So. Soon.

Pillow fight! Kyler won 🙂

Kyler checking out New Zealand

It was water day at school so she got to bring her backpack in. Such a big girl.

Just having some din din

This weekend, my friend Marisa and I drove down to Ft. Myers to surprise our friend Marissa (confused yet) with a weekend visit!!!

Stopped at Fenway South (sorry Chris!)

Meanwhile back at home… Chris busted his butt working on the sprinkler system and new sod and trees went in!

The girls are happy to have their backyard back!

and so is Kyler!

I had a fun weekend spending time with my girlfriends but it was nice to get home to these two ❤

I just miss her so much every time I am not with her!

Realllllyyyy hoping our pool gets finished this week. Chris’ sister Jen and our nephew Matt is coming to visit and it would be nice to have our house put together!!

Hope you had a great weekend! Here’s to another week!

Weekend Update with The Jenkinsons

4 Aug

Well the pool progress has seemed to really slow down which is really frustrating when we are THIS close to being done. They were able to finish the plumbing and install the baby fence this week.

They are supposed to put the pool finish on and fill her up with water this week! Fingers are crossed we stay on track!

My child loves Asian food (which is great because so does Mom). I made shrimp stir-fry and put it over brown rice for her (noodles for us) and she ate it right up. Actually she went straight for the shrimp which I find a little funny because I really thought the texture would throw her off. She loves it!

Daddy’s little helper…She helped Chris pull weeds aka pick and mulch and throw it to the side.

Never to early to make some cookies!

Play time with Dad while I was working a concert.

Kyler moved to a new classroom at school last week. She is now in the 1 1/2 year olds to 2 1/2 year olds. They said she has seemed to transition great. The biggest change for her is no more sippy cups. She drinks out of a big girl cup all by herself. They asked that we practice it at home so we have been trying to use them at our meals.

The biggest news of the week is that my best friend Jenny had her sweet little boy on Wednesday!!!

Welcome to the world Greyson Joseph Basso!!!

How cute is he?!?!? Seriously, can’t get enough of him ❤

So proud of my friends for making such a sweet boy! He weights 7.7 lbs and was 21 inches long. Perfect!

Have a great week!!!
